What is Memory Care? And why should I move there when I compare it to Assisted Living?

Assisted Living offers assistance with medical oversight and help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Memory Care helps with Activities of Daily Living with specialized training for persons with dementia.

An individual with memory-related disorders may need a memory care environment to provide a more familiar & structured routine versus an Assisted Living that simply provides a calendar for a Resident. Persons with dementia or memory-related disorders may have a more difficult time remembering to look at a calendar to attend the activity, on their own. As a result, in a standard Assisted Living, they may spend too much time in their apartment alone, or get frustrated because they “don’t know what they’re supposed to do.” This is why our independent living in Palm Bay is so important for those with memory-related disorders.

A memory care environment has staff who are trained to encourage and support persons with memory-related disorders. We understand that the inability to communicate our exact needs, fears, and frustrations can bring on anxiety and behaviors as a result.

The community activities, programs, and even our dining services are designed FOR persons with dementia, to minimize frustration and minimize any perceived lack of respect and instead, to provide empowerment and dignity.

At our memory care facility in Florida, we provide an exceptional memory care program uniquely designed with our residents in mind. Our programs ignite the senses, expand the mind, and support the emotions of our residents. We pride ourselves on staying current with innovative lifestyle approaches while employing tried and true techniques proven to be successful throughout the years. We strive to serve residents with Alzheimer’s and related dementias in a way that honors their unique habits, passions, and history.
